Speckled Sussex
As we already breed Light and Buff Sussex, we thought we'd try our hand at Speckled Sussex too.
In our experience they are a fair bit different to our other Sussex breeds. The speckling in our birds extends all over, and you might not immediately identify them as Sussex. They are a little smaller than our other Sussex and not as prolific in the laying department.
Nevertheless, they are robust, tough little birds and they are very easy to keep. Their markings are very attractive and will add interest to your home flock if mixed in with other breeds.
We have put a few surplus hens into our own laying flock and they do well in that environment. As you can see from the picture. they're not afraid to lord it over the other hens!
