Rhode Island Red

Chickens RIR Group

The Rhode Island Red is a very traditional and popular farmyard chicken.

Originally from Little Compton in Rhode Island, USA, the breed was introduced to the Uk around 1900.  These hardy birds lay about 260 brown eggs each year.

The Rhode Island Red was used in creating many of the modern hybrids which form the basis of the UK's commercial egg production units.

These industrious, inquisitive and robust birds are an ideal breed for beginners.

Give them a bit of space to roam around in and somewhere safe to shelter from the worst of the elements and they will reward you with a daily supply of delicious fresh eggs - lovely.
